Here is the relief most people are looking for: a car does not need a title, current registration, or even plates to be legally transported on a carrier. Transport is freight, not driving. The car rides as cargo, and cargo does not need to be street legal.
Why this comes up constantly
Auction cars ship before the title arrives in the mail, that is normal and covered in our auction guide. Inherited cars sit in probate with paperwork in progress. A car bought from a private seller has a title signed over but not yet transferred. A stored car has registration that expired years ago. Every one of these ships without drama, because the carrier is hauling it, not driving it.
What the carrier actually needs
Access to the car, a key if it runs, and someone authorized to release it at pickup. The driver documents the condition on the bill of lading, and that is the paperwork that matters for transport. What we do care about at booking: tell us honestly if documents are not with the vehicle, especially on auction pickups where the gate checks release paperwork, so nothing surprises the driver at the yard.
The one big exception: leaving the country

Transport is not ownership
