The Best Time to Ship a Car (and the Cheapest)
Car shipping runs on supply and demand, the supply of truck space on your lane against everyone else trying to use it that week. Same car, same route, different month, different price. If your dates have any flexibility at all, timing is the easiest money you will ever save on transport.
The cheap seasons
The soft months are generally February through early April, after the winter snowbird wave and before summer moving season, and again October into mid November on most lanes. Demand dips, carriers compete for loads, and prices follow. If you can point at a week in those windows, do it.
The expensive seasons
Late May through August is peak everything: family relocations, college moves, military transfer season. December holidays tighten truck supply too. And snowbird lanes play by their own calendar, southbound to Florida spikes October through December and northbound spikes March through May, which is why the same Florida route can be cheap one direction and pricey the other in the same week. How far ahead to book
One to two weeks ahead is the sweet spot on most lanes: enough runway for carriers to fit you into a route, not so early that conditions change under the quote. Same-week and same-day moves usually cost a premium because a carrier has to bend an existing route around you. Booking months out buys nothing extra.
Flexibility is a discount code
A three to five day pickup window prices better than a single fixed day, every time. Carriers build routes like puzzles, and the more ways your car fits into the puzzle, the less they charge to take it. Fixed-date, time-critical moves are absolutely doable, they just cost more.

What is the cheapest month to ship a car?
February and early March are usually the softest on most lanes, with October and early November close behind. Snowbird routes are the exception and run on their own calendar.
Is car shipping cheaper in winter?
Generally yes, January through March is the slow season on most routes. The exceptions are holiday weeks and southbound snowbird lanes, which stay hot into December.
